On January 23, 2010 East Bay Judo Institute held a demonstration at Ice Chamber, an athletic performance training center located in Richmond, CA. Ice Chamber continues to support many of East Bay Judo’s athletes, including 2008 Olympic Alternate Ann Shiraishi.
The demonstration drew a lot of interested members and families of Ice Chamber, who were curious to find out what judo is.
EBJI was represented by Dan Israel Sensei, Ken Kokka Sensei, Ann Shiraishi, Yukako Taketani, Brandon and Dillon Izzo and Satoshi and Masashi Matsumoto. Head Instructor David Matsumoto Sensei also attended the demonstration.
2008 Olympian Sayaka Matsumoto led discussions on what judo is, the techniques associated with the sport and answered basic questions from the crowd.
After EBJI members demonstrated some techniques, Ice Chamber members and families had the opportunity to participate in a hand’s on experience, which they enjoyed:
